It’s been more than twenty years since the first public release of Globus software. In this article originally posted on the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) blog, Globus Senior Technical Writer Lee Liming and Chief Customer Officer Vas Vasiliadis discuss the routes we've explored toward sustainability—and what we've learned along the way.

Used by researchers and students from all fields of science, XSEDE coordinates access to the National Science Foundation’s public supercomputing systems, such as Texas Advanced Computing Center’s Stampede2 and Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center’s Bridges.

XSEDE uses Globus Auth as its Web Single Sign-On (SSO) service, allowing XSEDE web applications to sign users on and access their XSEDE identities.

One of the features Globus users appreciate is its user-friendly login mechanism. Globus allows users to login using Google, ORCID, or identities from any of the thousands of academic/research organizations that participate in InCommon or eduGAIN.

Did you know you can easily add the Globus login function to your own Apache-hosted website or web application? In this blog post, I’ll demonstrate how to use Globus Auth to do just that.

At GlobusWorld 2018, we announced ongoing work to redesign the Globus web app. We appreciate all the input we have received since then from users who tested the new web app. Today we released a beta version of the new Globus web app, and are looking for feedback from all our users - that means you! Try it now by going to app.globus.org or clicking on the new banner in the current web app.  We value your feedback as we prepare for the production release later this year.

Globus uses the Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption protocol to secure network communications. In keeping with recommended security practices, Globus is deprecating TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 and requiring a minimum of TSL 1.2. This security upgrade will roll out across all Globus services and downloads during the week of August 27, 2018.

We expect this change to impact only a very small number of users. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact support@globus.org.

My last post introduced the Jupyter “live notebook” environment and explained why our Globus team is working to make it easier to use Globus services in the Jupyter environment. Now, it’s time to share some of the cool things you can do with Globus and Jupyter.

In this post, I’ll cover how to access Globus services in Jupyter notebooks, how to set up a multi-user JupyterHub to use Globus for user logins, and how to access Globus access tokens in a notebook after logging in with Globus.
