perfSONAR is an infrastructure and a set of services for network performance monitoring, facilitating the ability to make and exchange performance measurements in order to solve end-to-end performance problems on paths crossing several networks, and enable network-aware applications. There are over 700 publicly registered perfSONAR toolkit deployments worldwide, and the adoption is continuing to grow rapidly within data-intensive application communities.

Please join us for the next ECSS symposium, on Tuesday, December 17 at 12 pm CST.
The speakers will present a symposium describing current and planned efforts to enable more scientists to easily, transparently, and reproducibly analyze and share large-scale next-generation sequencing data with the Galaxy framework. Topics and speakers are as follows:
I am pleased to honor Joel Brownstein from the University of Utah as the Globus User of the Month for December 2013. Professor Joel Brownstein is the data archivist of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-IV (SDSS-IV), which is the continuation of the SDSS-I, -II, and -III surveys.
The SDSS-I, -II, and -III surveys have together amassed hundreds of terabytes of data from millions of stars throughout the Milky Way, and distant galaxies and quasars that allow us to study the structure and evolution of galaxies, the nature of dark energy and dark matter, and the cosmological history of the universe.
September 23, 2013 - 5:00 CDT to September 27, 2013 - 5:00 CDT
The year's conference will put special focus on campus clusters as the core of the cyberinfrastructure strategy, and also campus bridging. Major topics: Systems design/configuration, tools, software, middleware, alogrithms, applications, storage.
Vas Vasiliadis and Rachana Ananthakrishnan will present a half-day tutorial on Globus Online, targeted at resource providers such as research computing centers and supercomputing facilities. read more...

The Front Range Consortium for Research Computing (FRCRC) is a group of universities and government labs located near a region of the Rocky Mountains known as the Front Range. The FRCRC is a partnership that enables the partner institutions to collaborate in order to promote HPC (High Performance Computing) and share ideas for further collaboration. All member institutions rely on high performance computing to meet their own strategic goals.
The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) is hosting a workshop that focuses on the management of large datasets throughout their lifetime. From job prep, to jobs, to analysis, the workshop will help researchers better deal with big data from acquisition to publication.
Rachana Ananthakrishnan will be presenting on software-as-a-service for research data management, highlighting user success stories for the Globus Online file transfer service and describing future plans for metadata services.
Discover Big Data is the theme of the San Diego Supercomputer Center Summer Institute in 2013, reflecting the pressing need for high performance solutions for exploring and analyzing the large volumes of data that science and business applications are now able to generate with ease. The 5-day summer institute will cover topics in HPC and big data including, data management, data analytics and visualization, and parallel programming models, via discussion of specific use cases and hands-on exercises.
