In the stock markets, the so-called "January Effect" is the increase in stock prices during the month of January that commentators attribute to investors buying stocks after having sold them during the previous December (usually for tax reasons). Unlike most January's, last month the markets experienced a steep drop—the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 5.3% from its 2013 year-end level. But I'm happy to say that the January Effect is alive and well at Globus!
The Operating Innovative Networks (OIN) workshop series is designed to equip university and laboratory network engineers with the knowledge and training needed to build next-gen campus networks that are optimized for data-intensive science.
Easy, fast and reliable transfer and sharing of research data on and off campus with Globus is the focus of a February workshop for Purdue students, post-doctoral researchers, faculty and staff who want to learn about, and learn how to use, the Globus system.

The 2014 Galaxy Community Conference will start with a Training Day on June 30, followed by two full days of accepted talks, keynotes, lightning talks, poster sessions, birds-of-a-feather sessions, and networking time.
As in past years, talks will cover a wide range of biology, bioinformatics, and informatics. Ravi Madduri and Paul Davé will be presenting "Using Galaxy and Globus to deliver Science as a Service."
Moving, sharing, and copying files from one platform to another can be challenging when working with large data. This hands-on workshop will introduce researchers to how to move data on the University of Chicago Research Computing Center system using Globus, and provide examples of how to integrate it into your research work-flow.
The workshop will be at the Kathleen A. Zar Room in the John Crerar Library in Hyde Park.
October 18, 2014 (All day) to October 22, 2014 (All day)
