Globus for System Admins: Deployment and Configuration

This session provides a practical introduction to Globus Connect Server for system administrators. Participants will learn how to install GCS, register an endpoint, and configure basic storage gateways and mapped collections for POSIX-based campus or lab storage systems.
We will walk through essential configuration files and concepts, discuss firewall and network considerations, and demonstrate how to create and test a simple endpoint suitable for end-user data transfers and basic sharing. This session establishes the foundation for more advanced topics covered in the subsequent session on multi-DTN endpoints, custom identity mapping, custom data domains, and cloud connectors.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
- Install Globus Connect Server on a suitable host.
- Create and configure a GCS endpoint.
- Configure storage gateways and mapped collections for local POSIX storage.
- Understand basic network, firewall, and security considerations for GCS.
