CLASS is a training program offered by Internet2, and is uniquely geared for the higher education community with the goal of empowering IT and research professionals to utilize state-of-the-art cloud computing and data science tools to accelerate the technical computing expertise on their campuses. We provide in-depth cloud training and workshops designed to help the higher education and research community develop their skills.

This CLASS training session, hosted by Internet2, provides a practical introduction to Globus Connect Server for system administrators. Participants will learn how to install GCS, register an endpoint, and configure basic storage gateways and mapped collections for POSIX-based campus or lab storage systems.

We will walk through essential configuration files and concepts, discuss firewall and network considerations, and demonstrate how to create and test a simple endpoint suitable for end-user data transfers and basic sharing. This session establishes the foundation for more advanced topics covered in the subsequent session on multi-DTN endpoints, custom identity mapping, custom data domains, and cloud connectors.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • Install Globus Connect Server on a suitable host.
  • Create and configure a GCS endpoint.
  • Configure storage gateways and mapped collections for local POSIX storage.
  • Understand basic network, firewall, and security considerations for GCS.
