Globus for Data Sharing and Collaboration

CLASS, an Internet2 training program, is uniquely geared for the higher education community with the goal of empowering IT and research professionals to utilize state-of-the-art cloud computing and data science tools to accelerate the technical computing expertise on their campuses. We provide in-depth cloud training and workshops designed to help the higher education and research community develop their skills.
In this Internet2-hosted session we will dive into the sharing and access control capabilities of Globus, focusing on how to create flexible, secure collaboration spaces for research data. Participants will learn how mapped and guest collections work, how to configure fine-grained data access permissions for individuals and groups, and how to use Globus Groups and institutional identities to manage access at scale.
Participants will create guest collections, assign permissions, and explore common sharing patterns such as “dropboxes” for data intake and multi-project folder structures. The emphasis is on practical, hands-on understanding of the tools and options available, setting the stage for a subsequent session focused on compliance-aware sharing and collaboration.

- Distinguish between mapped collections and guest collections and know when to use each.
- Create and manage shared collections for collaborative research.
- Configure and adjust permissions for users and groups.
- Use Globus Groups to support role-based and scalable access control models.
