Title: A Dialogue on Adapting Globus for the EU Research Community
Date: Sept 23, 2026, 12 PM - 12:30 PM
Location: Anatomical Theature (Bijloke)

The Globus team at the University of Chicago has operated a globally accessible research data management and computation service for over 15 years. While the service continues to meet the needs of users in the United States and countries abroad, challenges remain for some EU researchers who wish to use Globus and are prevented from doing so by an increasingly complex regulatory and geopolitical environment where privacy, data sovereignty, and related concerns become barriers to research progress.

With these challenges in mind, Globus is exploring ways in which our operating model can be adapted to meet the needs of all European researchers, and would like to engage with the EGI community to better understand the barriers to wider Globus adoption by EU institutions. We will present an update on the Globus service and solicit input from the audience on the specific issues that must be addressed. We intend for this session to be a dialogue that will inform our product plans and, hopefully, clear a path for broader use of Globus within the EU.
