File Transfer Component for Grids

File Transfer Client for Grids

LOOKING FOR DEVELOPER:
This component is currently not staffed. We are looking for a community volunteer improving it.

The File Transfer Client (FTC) provides the ability to conveniently transfer files between computers on the Grid with the help of a graphical user interface.
The user interface is based on a familiar concept of file browser windows that allow dragging and dropping files between each other.to instantiate the transfer of files (see Figure 2). A monitoring window provides information about the status of the transfer. The FTC supports  FTP, GridFTP, and the Reliable File Transfer  protocol. The client is available as Java Bean.

Client Installation

The file transfer component is available in the Java CoG Kit 1.1. Detailed information about the instalation can be found in the Java CoG Kit manual. We have decided to remove the webstart enabled instalation till we have found a community developer helping on this effort.

Contacts

The current status of the FTC is alpha.

Acknowledgments

A very early prototype for this component was designed at Illinois Institute of Technology under the supervision Dr.Gregor von Laszewski as class project taught by Dr. Gregor von Laszewski and Dr.Xian-He Sun. This work is supported by the Mathematical, Information, and Computational Science Division subprogram of the Office of Advance Scientific Computing Research, U.S. Department of Energy under Contract W-31-109-Eng-38. DARPA, DOE, NSF support for the Globus Toolkit research and development. We thank all the members of the Globus Project for the valuable help.
